There is a full slate of New York Yankees betting available throughout the MLB season, starting with Opening Day in March. In seasons where the team reaches the postseason, New York Yankees playoff odds are offered throughout the month of October and potentially all the way to the World Series in late October.

The New York Yankees are one of five teams in the MLB’s American League East division along with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees are one of two major league baseball clubs based in New York City along with the National League’s New York Mets. The Yankees play their home games at Yankee Stadium in the New York City borough of The Bronx. The team’s current home opened in 2009 with an exterior that resembles the original Yankee Stadium that opened in 1923 and had been renovated in 1976. Using a large payroll to attract top talent, the Yankees have won more titles than any other franchise in the four major North American sports leagues, amassing 22 World Series title prior to 1980.

After a loss to the Dodgers in the 1981 World Series, the Yankees began their longest playoff drought since 1921. Led by first baseman Don Mattingly for most of the 1980s, the NY Yankees failed to win a World Series during the ’80s for the first decade since the 1910s. Then from 1989 to 1992, the team had a losing record, spending significant money on free agent acquisitions who did not live up to expectations. In 1990, the Yankees had the worst record in the American League, and their fourth last-place finish in franchise history. Mattingly’s playing career would end after the 1995 season without him ever having played on a team that won a single playoff series.

The New York Yankees got back on top after Bob Watson took over as the team’s general manager following the 1995 season. Although Watson would remain in that role until only 1998, he put into place the nucleus of the team that would go onto win the World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. He was replaced by Brian Cashman, who following a disappointing 2008 season in which the Yankees failed to make the playoffs, ballooned his team’s payroll by signing CC Sabathia, A. J. Burnett, and Mark Teixeira to massive long-term free agent contracts. Although the NY Yankees won the 2009 World Series, the team’s bitter rival, the Boston Red Sox, won four times as many World Series titles as the Yankees did during the 15-year span from 2004 through 2018.

The New York Yankees have retired the jersey numbers of an astounding 22 players, more than any other MLB franchise. The franchise’s all-time leader in home runs is Babe Ruth with 659, and the all-time leader in RBIs is Lou Gehrig with 1,995. Derek Jeter’s 1,840 strikeouts are more than any player in the history of the New York Yankees. Whitey Ford’s 236 victories are more than any other NY Yankees pitcher, and Mariano Rivera’s 652 career saves are the most in both New York Yankees and Major League Baseball history.
