Penn State basketball odds are available all season long, starting in the months leading up to the 30-game NCAA regular season that starts in November and runs through March. The NCAA men's basketball tournament starts in March, and March Madness runs through the Final Four and championship game in April.

The Penn State men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I program and competes in the Big Ten Conference. The other Big Ten basketball schools are Michigan State, Purdue, Michigan, Wisconsin, Maryland, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Indiana, Rutgers, Illinois, Nebraska, and Northwestern.

The Penn State home basketball court is in the Bryce Jordan Center. The 15,261-capacity arena is on the campus of Penn State University in University Park, Pennsylvania. The student cheering section at the Jordan Center is known as the Legion of Blue. The basketball team's colors are blue and white.

The first year that Penn State had a basketball team was 1897. Since then, the Nittany Lions have made it to the NCAA tournament nine times, as of 2018-19. In 1954, Penn State made it all the way to the Final Four before falling to La Salle, 69-54. The Nittany Lions bounced back from that defeat and defeated USC 70-61 in the national third-place game, which was part of the NCAA tournament at the time. More recently, Penn State advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament in 2001.

Penn State has also had success in the NIT. The Nittany Lions won the tournament twice. In 2009, Penn State defeated Baylor in the NIT championship game 69-63 to claim its first title in the tournament. In 2018, Penn State again won the NIT, defeating Utah 82-66 in the final.

Talor Battle played guard for Penn State from 2008-2011. During that time, he was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and helped the Nittany Lions win the 2009 NIT title. He also became the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,213 points. Jesse Arnelle, who was on the Nittany Lions basketball team from 1952-1955, holds the school record for career rebounds, with 1,238. And Tim Frazier accumulated a school-record 641 career assists between 2010-2014. Bruce Parkhill was the Penn State men's basketball coach from 1983-84 through 1994-95. During his tenure, Parkhill won more games (181) than any other coach in school history.

Twelve players from Penn State have gone onto careers in the NBA, including John Amaechi, Calvin Booth, and Tim Frazier.
